GOV. BELLO CHARGES CHILDREN TO SHUN ACTS INIMICAL TO THEIR GROWTH, SOCIETY
Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello says his administration will not relent at inspiring children in the State to become leaders that will contribute their quota to the betterment of the society.
Governor Bello gave the charge in a message to the 5th Inauguration ceremony of the Kogi State Children’s Parliament held at the Glass House – Government House, Lokoja.
The Governor who was represented at the event by his Deputy, Chief Edward David Onoja, said the present administration has accord attention to greater awareness and practice of children’s rights in line with the United Nation’s Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) in the State, saying such will be sustained.
Governor Bello noted that the need for children to grow healthy, educated, protected and with fair chances in life cannot be overemphasized, calling on parents and other care givers to continue to live up to their responsibilities.
The Governor pointed out that he bears a personal resolve to continually protect the lives and property of the people of the State, while entrenching his thematic interest in education, health, science, technology and infrastructural development across the State to provide opportunities for Children to realize their potentials.
He charged parents to imbibe good morals in their children/wards, advising the children to respect their parents, shun exam malpractices, cultism, drug abuse and other vices that are inimical to their growth and the society at large.
Governor Yahaya Bello added that the Child Rights Law birthed by his administration will further be domesticated for the benefit of the Children through collaboration with the parliamentarians.
Present at the 5th Inauguration ceremony include; Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Folashade Arike Ayoade (PhD), Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Hajiya Fatima Kabir Buba, Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology – Hon. Wemi Jones, Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Hon. Salifu Isah Idachaba and Kogi State Head of Service – Mrs. Hannah Onyinoyi.
Others were representatives of the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Public Defender and Citizens’ Right Commission, civic groups, parents, amongst others.
