Sen. Okowa’s Campaign Team Warn Youths Against Drug Abuse, Intake of Other Harmful Substances
The slogan, “Say No To Drug Abuse” filled the air as the Okowa Champions Campaign Against Drug Abuse For A Stronger And More Secured Delta State visited Okpe Local Government Area of the State.
Okpe LGA which happens to be the 24th LG to benefit from the Campaign so far, had dignitaries from all works of life in attendance.
The Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to Delta State Governor on Social Works, Mrs. Pally Eghove, who led the team, described the Campaign as timely, saying it will go a long way at giving youths new orientation.
Mrs. Eghove explained that the rate at which some youths abuse drugs was becoming alarming, hence the need for all and sundry to kick against such trend.
She commended her Principal, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa – Delta State Governor for initiating the Campaign Against Drug Abuse, explaining that the Campaign is fast yielding good results.
The SSA on Social Works described the Governor as a man with the interest of the youths and the less privileged at heart, stressing that the State has been witnessing unprecedented growth since his assumption of Office.
She advised students and other youths present at the event to abide by the lessons learnt at the Campaign, pointing out that the sanity of the society is the collective responsibility of all.
Other speakers at the event, including the Council Chairman, Police, Staff of the Education Board, Drug Control Vanguards, Teachers and parents, stressed the need for collaboration at achieving the aims and objectives of the Campaign as initiated by Governor Okowa.
They appreciated Sen. Ifeanyi Okowa for his foresight at bringing the event to Okowa LGA, while describing the Campaign as educative and effective.
Dignitaries at the event include the Executive Chairman of the Area – Hon. Isaiah Onoriode Esiovwa, Secretary to the LG, Barr. Eju Leader, the HPM Mr. Charles Aruvkpere, the Leader of the Legislative Arm Rt. Hon. Peter Aragbata, Deputy Leader Hon. Onojighofia, Majority Leader, Barr. Ramsey Okoro, Deputy Majority Leader Hon. Afor Caleb, Chief Whip Hon. Ufuoma Isodje, Deputy Chief Whip Hon. Josephine Adaighofua, NULGE Chairman Comr. Endurance Odebala, Information Officer Comr. Obovwemu Solomon, among others.
The event featured Lecture highlighting the Causes, Consequences of Drug/Substance Abuse, Prevention and how to cope with them by the Campaign Resource person – Miss Oghale Orobosa, Question and Answer Session and Inauguration of DRUG CONTROL VANGUARD.
