A promising presidential aspirant of the Social Democratic Party SDP, Prince Adewole Adebayo has condemned the rising wave of animosity among Nigerian citizens in recent years, he said that the country needs a leader that will initiate and implement ideas that will check and address this ugly trend.
These remarks were contained in a statement released shortly after a church service on Sunday. According to the high-profile presidential contestant, people of different tribes in the country no longer trust one another due to tribal differences and divergent religious beliefs.
This development in his views does not reflect the essence of good religious practices, nether does it portray the lofty ideals of our founding fathers.
This state of mutual distrust accounts for the rising incidents of segregation, marginalization, hatred, and even organized crimes against people allegedly perceived as enemies. Unfortunately, successive Nigerian leaders have failed to identify and address these problems from the source, he said.
Nevertheless, just like we know that every cloud has a silver lining, a close appraisal of his antecedents indicates that Prince Adebayo has taken it upon himself to be an agent of unity and advocate of peaceful resolution of lingering issues among Nigerians, whom he described as one people, despite the disparity in language and culture.
The SDP presidential hopeful on Sunday vowed to bridge the gap between warring factions among Nigerian tribes through the absolute and justifiable implementation of the federal character commission equity and gender provisions.
This he intends to achieve the stated, by consulting and bringing key stakeholders to a round table whereby everyone will have the opportunity to present their interests so they could be discussed and addressed holistically.
Adewole made it clear that no society can make progress by fanning the embers of disunity or outrightly shortchanging other bona fide members of the same society over resources belonging to all. On that note, he called on all well-meaning Nigerians to embrace his transformational ideology by mobilizing support for the SDP which he described as the best alternative platform with the requisite manifesto needed to ensure equity, justice, and fairness in the country’s next democratic dispensation.
