Kogi State Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Hon. Salifu Isah Idachaba, has described Late Engr. Joseph Makoju as a hero whose commitment to selfless service is of no equal.
Hon. Idachaba stated this in a message to the funeral of the late philanthropist in Okene.
The Commissioner who was represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mr. Benjamin Ibrahim, noted that the demise of Engr. Makoju was a great loss to Kogi State, saying he has left a vacuum difficult to fill.
He said the late icon has been bridging gaps between the poor and the rich with a large farm house at Osara and other cottage industries in Nigeria, impacting the lives of others positively and also contributed massively to the development of the society.
Hon. Idachaba who is also the Alternate Chairman of the Kogi State Advisory Intervention Committee on Culture and Tourism said the deceased who was a member of the Committee was up and doing at bringing his wealth of experience to bear on the success of the Committee.
He described him as an accomplished industry player, an astute administrator and an effective Communicator that will forever be remembered for his great deeds.
The Commissioner enjoyed the wife, children and other family members of the deceased to build on his legacies and take solace on the fact that Late Engr. Joseph Makoju lived for the service of humanity both within and outside the shores of Nigeria.
While praying Allah to grant the soul of the departed aljanah firdausi, Hon. Idachaba called on all and sundry to always seek to help others at all times.
Born on 13th July 1948 and died on 11th April 2022, Late Engr. Joseph Oyeyani Makoju, served as Special Adviser (Electric Power) to former President of Nigeria, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan under two separate administrations.
He was also the Special Adviser to the President/Chief Executive, Dangote Group, the Chairman, Cement Manufacturers Association of Nigeria, as well as West African Power Pool Executive Board.
Makoju recently retired as the Group Managing Director/CEO of the Dangote Cement PLC; a position he held since April 2018.
Late Engr. Joseph Oyeyani Makoju was also a member of the 9-man Advisory Intervention Committee on Culture and Tourism set up by the Executive Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Yahaya Adoza Bello.
