Muslim Pilgrims from Kogi have departed for their sojourn to the holy land of Saudi Arabia.
The Intelligence News gathered that the Pilgrims were airlifted on Tuesday, 21st June, 2023 onboard the MaxAir at 9:25pm (Nigerian Time) with the 370 Muslim Pilgrims from Kogi State onboard.
Recall that the pilgrims were addressed by the State Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello with a charge to be good Ambassadors of the State and the Country at large while at the holy land.
The word Hajj means “to attend a journey”, which connotes both the outward act of a journey and the inward act of intentions.
In Islamic terminology, Hajj is a pilgrimage made to the Kaaba, the “House of God”, in the sacred city of Mecca in Saudi Arabia.
It is one of the Five Pillars of Islam, alongside Shahadah (oath to God), Salat (prayer), Zakat (almsgiving) and Sawm (fasting of Ramadan).
The Hajj is a demonstration of the solidarity of the Muslims and their submission to Allah.
The rites of pilgrimage are performed over five to six days, extending from the 8th to the 12th or 13th of Dhu al-Hijjah, the last month of the Islamic calendar.
Because the Islamic calendar is lunar and the Islamic year is about eleven days shorter than the Gregorian year, the Gregorian date of Hajj changes from year to year.
