Kogi State Government have been called upon to give priority to science, Technical and Vocational Education in the state.
Provost, College of Education Technical, Kabba, Mrs. Victoria Olushola Jagboro made the call when a team from the Ministry of Information and Communications visited the institution in Kabba.
Mrs. Jagboro noted that Science, Technical and Vocational education is Paramount and driving force for sustainable development of every society and helps individuals to become self-reliant, calling on government to ensure support to enable students contribute positively to the development of the society.
The Provost commended Governor Yahaya Bello for his developmental stride in education sector and commitment to revamping education, especially in the areas of science, technical and vocational training, describing his administration as a blessing to the College.
She maintained that one of the recorded achievements of the College was the invention of tricycle, known as “Keke Technical” which was invented by students of the institution.
She said the tricycle is expected to perform dual functions of conveying passengers and cargo soon.
The Provost noted that the technical innovation in the school is capable of halting the importation of Keke Napep from Asia, saying the College has all it takes to drive the technological advancement of the nation.
Mrs. Jagboro pointed out that Before the emergence of Governor Yahaya Bello the place was a forest, Stressing that the present Administration has transformed the college structures and facilities that will bring positive Results to the State and Nigeria at large.
She noted that the staff of the college were grateful to the Governor for his commitment to the advancement of the institution and assured of building and baking students who will leave the college as employers of labour rather than job seekers which is the hallmark of technical education.
According, to her the Drone built by one of the student was acknowledged by the Technology Institutes in the United States, stressing that they are taking a keen interest in what the college is doing.
The Provost said the Keke Technical is an innovation that dwarfs what the nation is currently importing from Asia. Stressing that it shows what Nigerians can do when their is a good leadership.
The Provost said state-of-the-art Rashida Bello CBT Centre built by the Governor, was recommended as the best in the North Central by the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria, commending the State Government for making the school proud with the structures and equipping of such a magnificent CBT Centre.
She however, appealed to the State Government to help fix the Oguya River Bridge to enable students and management staff have access to the Permanent Site of the institution.
Responding, the Commissioner of Information and Communications, Evangelist Kingsley Fanwo said the visit was to access the level of structures and Facilities in the institution and expressed satisfaction with the achievements of the present administration recorded in the college, describing it as the effort of Governor Yahaya Bello to revamping education, especially in the area of science and technology.
He said the Keke Technical invented by students of the college was an innovation that the world must see, Saying the present administration will not allow the idea to die without hitting the roads, stressing that administration of Governor Yahaya Bello believes in home grown technology.
The Commissioner assured the School of Positive Response from the Governor especially on keen areas that will benefit the college and the students.
