The Maiden Edition of the Federal University Lokoja Vice Chancellor’s Fitness Day has been described as a rare initiative that should be sustained.
The call for the sustenance was made by participants who took part in the Maiden Vice Chancellor’s Fitness Day, as they showered encomium on the Institution’s VC, Prof. Olayemi Akinwumi, for his doggedness and commitment at bringing innovations to the University.

In an interview with the Chairperson of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Federal University Lokoja Branch, Dr. Joshua Silas, lauded the VC’s insight at initiating the Fitness Day, describing Prof. Akinwumi as a man of his words.
Dr. Joshua noted that exercise is a good therapy for the body, saying it saves one unnecessary spending on medication and adjudged the Maiden FUL Vice Chancellor’s Fitness Day as wonderful.

He explained that exercise helps in burning calories, improves ones general performance and also keeps the people fit.
Also speaking, the Acting Head of Sports, Federal University Lokoja, Sirajo Yusuf, described Exercise as a key to life, saying that taking part in exercise plays significant role in human intellect.
Yusuf said 30minutes Walkout keeps human brain focus for 2hours, stressing that such is needed in an academic environment at all times.

The Acting FUL Head of Sports described exercise as an easy antidote to depression, noting that exercise also prolongs human life span.
He commended the Institution’s Vice Chancellor for his commitment to the development of Sports sector in the University, pointing out that the sector has taken new shape since Prof. Akinwumi’s assumption of Office as the Institution’s Vice Chancellor.

The participants enjoined their colleagues who could not make it to the Maiden Fitness Day to make it a point of duty to be a part of the subsequent ones as it goes a long way at keeping them fit and more stable psychologically.
On his part, the Vice Chancellor, Federal University Lokoja, Prof. Olayemi Akinwumi, expressed joy over the successful hosting of the Maiden Fitness Day, explaining that the idea was borne on the heels of the need for the staff of the Institution to stay healthy and fit.
“The exercise is just to keep ourselves fit for our Academic job and we will be doing this regularly now, at least once a month
“Then after the Examination we will also involve the students because everyone needs it” he said.

Prof. Akinwumi expressed optimism that more staff and friends of the Institution will join the Fitness activities in no distant time, adding that more would be done to make the exercise more interesting.
The Federal University Lokoja Senior Staff Club Under the auspices of it’s Health Awareness Initiative invited members of the Club, the University Community and friends of the Institution to take part in the Maiden Edition of the Vice Chancellor’s Fitness Day to enable them stay healthy and fit, while carrying out their day to day activities.
Brisk Walk or Jogging, aerobics, Dancing, Table Tennis, Skipping and Cycling, were the activities engaged in during the Exercise as more games are expected to be added in the subsequent editions.
