As the world marks the 2023 International Women’s Day (IWD) they have again been reminded of their role of ensuring they give their children quality foundational training.

 

Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Adoza Bello, made the emphasis at an event to commemorate this year’s IWD, organized by the Special Adviser on Women Affairs to the Governor, Hon. Asmau Gogo Kabir, in partnership with the Kogi State Women Professionals at the Glass House, Government House, Lokoja, Kogi State Capital.

Represented by his Chief of Staff, Pharm. Abdulkareem Muhammed Jamiu Asuku, Governor Bello pleaded with women to double their efforts in disciplining their children and wards to bring sanity to the various vices currently experienced in the Country.

He also stressed the need to educate the girl-child, saying that educating a girl-child is educating a generation.

“Women are the foundation of nations building. Women are the yesterday, today and tomorrow of this universe. There will be no generation next without Women

“Women are foundational teachers so teach your children rightly. Be a good ambassador of womanhood. Be that mother that we will be proud of when we look back

“Today we are facing a lot of challenges, it is you women that possess the ability to bring the needed solution” Gov. Bello stressed.

He advised the young ones especially the young ladies, to embrace decent dressing to curb issues of rape in the society.

The Governor stressed that deviation from an ideal family institution is the beginning of societal failure, calling on Women to give us a Nation that we can be proud of through proper training of their children.

He also advised that a phora should be created where women will be continually reminded of their responsibilities as mothers.

Governor Yahaya Adoza Bello praised his Special Adviser on Women Affairs, Hon. Asmau Gogo Kabir for organising the event, saying that it served as an eye opener for women at the event as they were enlightened on various issues.

He said he is pleased with the SA in view of continuous efforts at organising programs that has direct bearing on women and others in the society and encouraged her to sustain the good works.

In a remark, the Kogi State Head of Service, Mrs. Hannah Odiyo, described women as salt that seasons the society.

Mrs. Odiyo said more women are needed in the political scene, saying that they have what it takes to perform well at various positions.

Earlier, the Organizer of the event who is the Special Adviser on Women Affairs to the State Governor, Hon. Asmau Gogo Kabir, stressed the need to accord equal respect to women.

Hajiya Asmau noted that it is important to also empower women, saying that such will go a long way at ensuring gender equity in the society.

She explained that gone were the days when women are limited to operate in the kitchen and other domestic works alone, stressing that such development should be discouraged in its entirety.

The Society will be better when women are given Equal respect and are not taken for granted

“A girl-child must be encouraged to go to school, learn work and know that they can pursue whatever goal they set their minds to” she said.

Hajiya Asmau Gogo appreciated the State Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Adoza Bello for giving women opportunities to display their leadership ability, describing him as one that has set the path for others to emulate in terms of women involvement in governance.

She advised women at the event to watch their diet and as well, engage in regular exercise to enable them stay healthy.

In a keynote address entitled “Embrace Equity”, the Head of Women Bankers, Mrs. Funke Fehintola, encouraged women to always speak up, saying that silence is expensive.

Mrs. Fehintola noted that to embrace equity, women must learn to listen to others and as well, accommodate and create a culture of understanding.

“As women, God has given us so much, let’s create enabling environment for others to be free around us

“Let’s begin to build equity in our relationship with others at home, school, work place, places of worship, wherever we found ourselves, let’s embrace equity” Mrs. Fehintola advised.

Speaking on Women and Professionalism, WiLAT Chairperson, Mrs. Erin Chika, encouraged women to develop themselves to enable become more relevant.

She said women can achieve their goals, explaining that professionalism is important at helping women attain greater heights at their work place.

Chika stressed that Professionalism creates trust, credibility, competent and growth, brings about innovation and encourages cooperation to achieve common goals, among others.

Various Professional Women Associations in their numbers, trooped to the event.
