History Professor Emerges first Nigerian to Win $300,000 Dan David Prize

A Nigerian-American Professor of History, Saheed Aderinto, has emerged first Nigerian to receive the $300,000 Dan David Prize.

 

Reacting to the news, the United States Mission in Nigeria congratulated Prof. Aderinto for his efforts and contributions to the world.

The Mission in a Congratulatory Message posted on its Facebook page, explained that the $300,000 Dan David Prize —is the largest financial reward for excellence in the historical discipline in the world.

Similarly, Nigeria’s President, Muhammadu Buhari, in a statement by his Spokesperson, Femi Adesina, commended the Professor for being a worthy ambassador of the Country.

The Nigerian-American Professor of History and African Diaspora Studies at Florida International University, Saheed Aderinto, is the first Nigerian to receive the prize.

Professor Aderinto, the Founding President of the Lagos Studies Association, was among the nine scholars who clinched the award considered the largest history prize in the world.
