… As state assembly assures electoral body of full support.

The Nasarawa State Independent Electoral Commission (NASIEC) has assured residents of the State  that August 31, 2024 remains date for the conduct of local government elections.

Chairman of NASIEC, Barr Ayuba Wandai Usman, disclosed this when he led other management team of the body to appear before committee on NASIEC, Multilateral and Community Development of the State Assembly on its 2023 budget performance today in Lafia.

He said that the conduct of the election will promote democracy in the grassroots and the state at large.

” We have fixed Local Government election next year, 31st August, 2023. It is a product of law and for us in NASEIC, the date is sacrosanct.

” Party primaries will be conducted from January to February, 2023,” he said

The NASEIC chairman said that the tenure of the present set of elected local government officials would expire by Monday, October 7, 2024, hence the need to conduct fresh election to usher in new Local Government officials.

He commended the House for supporting its activities to succeed.

Wandai also lauded Gov. Abdullahi Sule for promoting democracy in the state.

Chairman of the Committee, Hon. Jacob Ajegina Kudu said that the budget exercise was to know performance of 2023 fiscal year.

” We have invited you as part of our constitutional duties to oversight your activities.

The House has appropriated funds for you and we want you to tell us how you expended the funds, that is why we are here to assess your 2023 budget performance,” he said

The chairman of the committee assured NASIEC of the House readiness to support its activities to succeed especially the upcoming elections.

He urged the management of NASIEC to continue to live above board while discharging their duties

Also appeared before the committee was the management of Balingual Education Project led by its Project Manager, Zainab Magaji where she said that they are being up and doing in taking the Almajiri and other children out of the street.

She also appreciated the House for the attention the project is enjoying from them and called for its sustenance.
