Nasarawa Assembly to assess LG Chairmen performance at grassroots.
The Nasarawa State House of Assembly says it will embark on oversight function to all the 13 local government areas in order to check the level of development at the grassroots.
This, the House said it will also asses the performance of the 13 LG Chairmen to get records of their developmental initiatives so far.
Hon Musa Ibrahim Abubakar (NNPP Doma South) the Chairman, House Committee on LG and Chieftaincy Affairs made this known when the 13 LG chairmen paid a familiarization visit to the committee today in Lafia.
He said that the aimed of the oversight was to ensure that the right things are done for the overall development of the local government areas in the state..
” What we are doing is our constitutional responsibilities and Mr Speaker has directed us to embark on oversight, hence the need of this exercise.
” The constitution has empowered us to check the releases and projects executed by the local government chairmen
” So you will furnish us with your various budget performances, releases and the disbursements made so far,” he said
Hon Musa urged the chairman of the local government areas to cooperate with the committee to succeed .
” When we are coming to your various local government areas, we are expecting that all of you will be in your offices/local government areas.
” We will not tolerate unnecessary excuses for being absent when we are coming for oversight to your local government area.
” As our coming to your various local government areas is not to witch hunt anybody but to ensure that the right thing are done for the betterment of our people,”.”he said
Hon Musa urged the chairmen of local government areas to submit all their financial and projects documents to the committee for scrutiny during the oversight.
Besides, he also urged the chairmen to continue to take the security of their councils seriously.
” Security is very important, without it we will not be seated here today ,” he said.
Responding, Hon Hashiru Bala, the ALGON Vice Chairman, Nasarawa State and Chairman, Wamba local government area appreciated the committee for its support to their activities.
He assured of their readiness to give the committee full support and cooperation during the oversight.
” We are always ready to do the needful for the overall development of our local government areas and the state at large.
” We will continue to live up to our expectations while discharging our duties,” he said.
