Nasarawa Assembly express concerned over high rate of vulnerable groups.
Nasarawa State Ministry of Women Affairs has said that due to high rate of vulnerable groups in the state, the ministry’s meagre resources couldn’t meet up with the needs and yearning of the people living with disabilities.
This is coming when the State House of Assembly Committee on Women Affairs pledged to provide legislative backing to support the ministry in ensuring that the plights of the vulnerable ones are adequately tackled.
This and other issues top discussion when the Commissioner of the ministry, Hajiya Aisha Rufai and Chairman of the House Committee meet today in Lafia during the presentation of the ministry 2023 budget performance.
The commissioner while appreciating the committee for supporting its activities, appealed for increment in the ministry’s budget to rekindle the hope of destitute, especially children.
Rufai said the number of vulnerable people is proportionally alarming and made a case for budget increments to enable the ministry roll out intervention to the destitute.

” The House is also giving us it’s maximum support in carrying out our activities.
” I want to tell you that the number of vulnerable people is proportionally alarming and they are seriously in need of succour,” she said.
She restated the state government commitment to key into positive policies and programmes that will have direct bearing on the lives of the vulnerable and other people of the state.
Besides, After the interaction, Newsmen sought to know how far the implementation of the child Rights Act in the state and the Commissioner, Aisha Rufai affirmed that the law has been domesticated but implementation is being greeted with hurdles adding that the ministry has put machineries in place to address it.
Earlier, Hon Hajara Danyaro Ibrahim, the Chairman, House Committee on Women Affairs and Social Development said that they were at the ministry to assess its 2023 budget performance.
Danyaro said that the committee was not pleased that the ministry handling social services can only secured 38 percent in budget performance.
She reminded the ministry that vulnerable people in the state are looking up to them.
The committee chairman assured of the committee support to the ministry and state government to succeed
” We will see how to come to your aid by supporting you and state government to succeed at all times,” she said.
She restated her commitment to continue to advocate for the plight of the less privileged ones and women in the society.
In a related development, the House of Assembly Committee on Women Affairs was at the State Disability Right Commission where Hajara Danyaro, the Chairman of the committee said the expenditure of the commission’s budget was not explicitly explained thus suspecting a foul play.
She revealed that the management of the commission needs to be invited for more explanation.
The committee Chairman tasked the management of the commission to work in line with the vision of the state government in bettering the lives of people living with disabilities in the state.
