Nasarawa State House of Assembly, has urged the State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board to continue to promote religious activities for peace and unity in the State as it hailed the commission for achieving 80 per cent implementation on its 2023 Budget performance urging it to sustain the tempo.
This is coming even as the National Hajj, Commission of Nigeria NAHCON proposed N4.5million per pilgrim for next year’s exercise which airlift is billed to commence May 9, with Nasarawa State gotten 2009 seats allocation.
Hon Ibrahim Aliyu Nana, the Chairman of the State Assembly Committee on Pilgrims gave the commendation while oversighting the boards activities today in Lafia.
Nana said that the committee’s visit to the board was to assess their 2023 budget performance.
” We are here to assess your 2023 budget performance and to see how we can partner together in order to promote religious activities in the State and enhance your performance ” he said.
The committee chairman assured them of the committee’s support to enable them succeed.
Nana commended the Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board for good budget performance noting that it was strictly implemented in accordance with approval of the House and lauded the leadership of the board for a successful Hajj, operation this year.
While at the Christian Pilgrims Welfare Board, the committee urged them to intensify effort in improving on their budget performance which was below expectations.
Earlier, the Executive Secretary of the Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board Alhaji Idris Ahmed Al-Makura, appreciated the committee for supporting their activities to succeed.
He assured of their commitment to promote religious activities, peace and unity across the state.
Almakura briefed the committee on the just concluded 2023 Hajj, operations as well as the preparations for the 2024 exercise.
He revealed that the National Hajj, Commission of Nigeria NAHCON, has allocated 2009 seats for 2024 Hajj, for the State emphasizing that all intending pilgrims are expected to deposit the sum of 4.5 million naira pending the announcement of the final Hajj, fare adding that so far about 800 intending pilgrims has made their deposits.
It was however gathered that May 9, 2024 is expected to be the date for commencement of airlifting of pilgrims in Nigeria.
At the Christian Pilgrims Welfare Board, Hon David Ayewa enumerated over head cost and Israeli–Palestinian conflict as hindrance to this year’s Christian Pilgrimage.
