Speaking recently, El-Rufai emphasized that the coalition is a work in progress focused on offering Nigerians a real alternative, rather than merging with existing parties like the PDP, which he described as a “spent force.”

The former Kaduna State Governor named the coalition, which includes prominent opposition figures such as Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi, is expected to rally under the African Democratic Congress (ADC) or the Social Democratic Party (SDP), with the latter chosen for its stability and potential to build a credible platform.

El-Rufai stressed that the movement is people-driven, not reliant on governors or political officeholders, highlighting that elections are ultimately decided by voters.

He encouraged aspirants to set aside personal ambitions to build the coalition first and insisted that the coalition will uphold internal democracy, avoiding the pitfalls of godfatherism seen in other parties.

He also downplayed concerns about defections into the ruling APC, stating that those defecting are mostly politicians seeking personal gain or fearing anti-corruption agencies, not the electorate.

The coalition aims to transcend regional and ethnic divides, focusing instead on national survival, unity, and progress. El-Rufai’s comments signal a bold and strategic political realignment ahead of 2027, with the goal of unseating the current administration through a united opposition front.
