Kogi: Club provides furniture for pupils learning on bare floor, offers scholarship

Relief has come for the pupils at a primary school in Abocho-Ajonuoja in Kogi state who have been learning in a classroom bare of furniture for years, as Frontier Club ( FC) provided them desks and tables to cushion their plight.

The members of the club ,led by its chairman, Alhaji Abubakar Sani last week Tuesday presented the public school with over sixty desks and seven sets of tables during a historic ceremony in the community.

The pupils in the public primary school have been sitting on the bare floor of the classrooms for years while receiving lesson from their teachers due to inadequate desks or benches to that effect.

The Frontier Club chairman said the situation of the pupils in the public primary school at Ajonuoja in Dekina local government in the state was not only heart breaking, but an eye -sore which needs urgent attention.

Worried by the ugly situation, he said , the members resolved to address it under this year’s project execution programme of the club for the community to have a sense of belonging.

“As part of our service to humanity,the club carries out a development project at the end of our yearly meeting.
Today, we have just delivered to a school at Abocho-Ajonuoja 60 desks and 7 set of tables.

“We have been able to support 50 students through our scholarship programme. The sum of N1,600,000 have been expended on the awardees in the 2023 edition of its scheme”, he said .

According to him, the scholarship award scheme of the club is meant for vulnerable and indigents students from the nine local governments in the state who could not afford to pay their school fees,when due.

The paramount ruler of Abocho community, His Royal Highness(HRH), Jonah Okai Idrisu who commissioned the project ,commended the club members for thier gesture , stressing that they have brought glory to his subjects, and the community in general.

While the Royal father implored the community to strive and ensure adequate protection and preservation of the donated items , he urged others to imbibe the ideal of Frontier club whose members are out to effect positive change in the challenged society of today.

Equally, a community leader , comrade Isah Ibrahim said the primary school that was established in 1976 in the community was bedevilled with challenges of desk, tables, teachers and chairs for years.

“The primary school have been suffering from shortage of desks, tables , teachers for about 8 – to 9 years now.

” We have cried to the state government to come to our aid without getting their attention, as the infrastructure in the school become dilapidated and collapsed fully.

“We thank our illustrious son of the community, professor Danladi Musa whose effort had made the club to supply the school the needed desks and tables for the second time”, he said .

Also, the chairman of the Parent Teachers Association (PTA) of the school, Mallam Sabo Umoru Aruwa said the “donation of the infrastructure has added an impetus to the image of the school and the conducive learning environment”.

A beneficiary, Egwu Nelson , a 300-level student of Industrial chemistry at Federal University Lokoja who claimed to have been enjoying the club’s scholarship from JSS 1 till date said the gesture had made him to have an easy ride in his academic pursuit.

Meanwhile, the club has constituted a new executive council to run its affairs as the tenure of the former executive members led by Sani Abubakar expired in this year’s annual general meeting at Anyigba.

Among others , the new executive members include ,
Chairman, Alhaji Yahaya Hussaini ; 1st vice chairman, Okai Aku, 2nd vice chairman, Samson Makoji , Secretary Ahmed Shaibu.

The newly inaugurated club chairman, Alhaji Yahaya Hussaini commended the outgoing executive council under the chairmanship of Alhaji Abubakar Sani for a job well -done, promising to work hard to make the club better.

“I promised to run an open leadership where every member can contribute ideas for the good of the club ,as no one has monopoly of knowledge”, he said.
