Kogi Applicants on Livestock Productivity, Resilience Support Project, (L-PRES) urge to wait for next batches
Applicants who are yet to be considered for grants under Kogi State Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support Project, (L- PRES) have been told to exercise patients ahead of the next batches to be considered.
Kogi State Project Coordinator of the Program, Dr Olufemi Bolarin gave the assurance in an interview with newsmen in Lokoja.
He said those considered recently are youths and women totaling five hundred beneficiaries who are into livestock farming.
Doctor Bolarin said they were into that aspect of farming for the past two years and the criteria for selection include sex, and age forty and below.
The project coordinator emphasised that another window of opportunity will soon emerged through combine efforts of Developmental Bank of Nigeria and L- PRES with over one hundred and seventy billion Naira to be assessed as loans to established farmers in the next three months.
In the aspect of continuity, the former Commissioner of Agric assured that there will be no policy summersaults, emphasising that the sustainability of the program is inbuilt.
His words ” if we give you four hundred poultry birds, we give you the food they will eat for the four weeks to maturity, we give you drug do you can sell it without taking a dime from you: so the sustainability in all the projects we are doing”.
He urged Nigerians to venture into agricultural sector saying the nation that does not go into production will be affected by the inelastic price curve.
On the achievements of ( L-PRES ) so far, Doctor Bolarin said the state government recently received five hundred thousand doses of anthrax vaccine from the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and food security to improve livestock health and productivity across the State.
He also commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for creating the Ministry of Livestock Development to reposition livestock sector and address herders farmers conflicts.
Doctor Bolarin emphasised that the (L-PRES) has a data base of over fifty one thousand livestock farmers who will benefit from various programmes.
He thanked Governor Ododo for the establishment of a Livestock Service Centre in the state to handle veterinary services, farmers training and dissemination of best practices in animal husbandry.
He maintained that Kogi State has become a reference point to other state through genuine contributions of the State Government to the agricultural sector.
