Court sets December 11 for ruling in Orogu contempt case
Nasarawa State High Court sitting in Doma has adjourned ruling on applications seeking to charge the former State PDP Chairman, Mr Francis Orogu, with contempt of court and to nullify ward and local government congresses conducted by the party.
The case was adjourned today by Justice Abdullahi Hassan Shams Shammah following the filing of an appeal by one of the defense counsels seeking to stay proceedings.
During the last adjourned date, Counsel to the plaintiffs, Ishaka Mudi Dikko SAN lodged two applications seeking to nullify the ward and local government Congresses conducted by the then leadership of Mr Francis Orogu and to also charge him with contempt for violating a court order which restrained him and the State Working Committee from conducting the congresses.
The matter was scheduled for ruling this Monday, but proceedings were stalled when counsel to the third respondent, Johnson Usman, SAN, informed the court that a motion on notice had been filed seeking to stay proceedings of 20/11/2024.
In his opinion, the court had made an error in taking those applications, a position validated by Counsels to the first and second defendants, Jacob Nzamanah and Ulegede Ucha.
However, counsel to the plaintiffs, Ishaka Mudi Dikko, SAN, argued that their application is unconnected to the ruling scheduled for delivery.
The presiding judge, Justice Abdullahi Hassan Shams Shammah, adjourned the case until 11/12/2024 after listening to all parties, to enable the defence counsels to file their reply on a point of law.
