Delta Governor Okays Capacity Building Workshop for Media Aides
…Prof Abigail Ogwezzy-Ndisika to attend as Chief Trainer from 17-19th December
In line with his human capital development programme encapsulated in the MORE agenda, Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has graciously approved the 5th edition of the Delta State Communication Workshop, DELCOM 2024, scheduled to hold from 17th to 19th December, 2024 at Hotel Benizia, Asaba.
Dr. Fred Latimore Oghenesivbe, Director General of the Delta State Orientation and Communications Bureau, announced in a statement on Thursday that a 3-day capacity building programme with the theme “Advancing Delta: Strategies For Public Communication and Effective Media Engagement” is designed to enhance the skills and efficiency of media appointees to the government, social media influencers, and media partners.
He further disclosed that Prof Abigail Ogwezzy-Ndisika, a renowned communication scholar and former Head of the Department of Mass Communication at the University of Lagos, will be the Chief Trainer, supported by Prof Joyce Ogwezzi, Head of the Mass Communication Department at Dennis Osadebey University, Anwai-Asaba.
As DELCOM State Coordinator, Oghenesivbe has given assurance that the training will equip participants with the skills to effectively and efficiently articulate and project the ongoing implementation of the MORE agenda, as well as the numerous achievements of Governor Oborevwori. The 3-Day brainstorming exercise, sponsored by the state government and supported by Delta State Internal Revenue Service, DSIRS, Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission, DESOPADEC, and Hotel Benizia Asaba, is expected to benefit a total of 150 participants.
He indicated that the Chief Trainer, Prof Abigail Ogwezzy-Ndisika, and other facilitators will guide participants through key modules, including strategies for developing communication plans, crisis communication and reputation management, effective media engagement and management, media interview simulation, digital communication and strategic storytelling, strategies for effective social media engagement, deployment of artificial intelligence in content creation, editing, and media coordination, among others.

“We are ready to roll, and the workshop shall take place at the prestigious Hotel Benizia in Asaba, from 17th to 19th December, 2024, begining from 9am each day.

The workshop venue shall be branded in appreciation of these high profile agencies while their arrowheads shall tell their success stories as it relates to the MORE Agenda, and would definitely be honoured with DELCOM Hall of Fame Awards.
“His Excellency, the executive governor of Delta State, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori shall declare DELCOM 2024 open on Tuesday 17th December, while Secretary to the State Government, Dr Kingsley Emu, will perform the closing ceremony on Thursday 19th December, 2024,” Oghenesivbe said.
