Senator Ahmed Aliyu Wadada, who represents Nasarawa West Senatorial District, has pushed for the construction of a flyover road at Keffi Total Roundabout to decrease accidents.
Senator Wadada disclosed during a condolence visit to the Emir of Keffi and the families of those who lost their lives on recent accidents in Keffi.
Global Times Nigeria investigation revealed that on Monday, 2nd December, 2024, Keffi residents were plunged into a state of mourning following a series of deadly accidents that occurred, resulting in the loss of more than ten lives, mostly comprising motorcycle riders and passersby.
According to an eyewitness who spoke to our correspondent, the accident was attributed to brake failure of a truck conveying goods, leading to the loss of lives of several individuals, including Mr. Chukwu, a respected Igbo leader in Keffi.
Prompted by the disturbing incident, Senator Ahmed Aliyu Wadada, representing Nasarawa West Senatorial District, presented a motion of urgent public importance before the senate, calling for the construction of a standard flyover at the incident site, considering the substantial loss of life.
Aliyu Wadada led a high-powered delegation to the Keffi emirate council to offer condolences over the incident, during which he expressed sympathy to the people of Keffi, particularly the families of the victims, and urged the royal father to find solace in God, accompanied by a donation of five million naira (5m) for the victims of the accident.
The Emir of Keffi, Dr. Shehu Chindo Yamusa III, thanked Senator Wadada in response for his tireless efforts in safeguarding the lives of his constituents, encouraging him to maintain the standard
Our correspondent reports that Senator Wadada, accompanied by his entourage, visited the Keffi roundabout scene of the accident to examine the damage caused by the distressing event.
“The accident we experienced three days ago is one too many, because it wasn’t the first. The negative impact of the previous accident, which is visibly dilapidated, was a result of one of the accidents.”
“As a representative, I need to take the matter up. This road does not serve only Keffi, neither does it only serve Nasarawa state. It serves Nigeria. People going to the north east, South-southeast and south-south, we need to struggle for the construction of flyover here”.
Away from Keffi roundabout, the lawmaker paid a condolence visit to the residence of Igwe Celestine Mba and the family of one of the deceased, to commiserate with them over the loss of his close associate, Mr. Chukwu, who was among the fatalities of the accident, describing the deceased as a courageous and hardworking individual whose legacy will be difficult to replace.
Speaking on behalf of the family, the chief of Igbo community in Keffi, Igwe Celestine Mba, expressed gratitude to senator Wadada for addressing the concerns of the Igbo community and his constituents in Keffi, and prayed for God to reward him abundantly while wishing him success in his office.
