APC/PDP crisis: Davido accuses Osun Police Commissioner of misconduct
Nigerian Afrobeat Star, Davido, also known as David Adeleke has publicly criticized the Osun State Commissioner of Police, CP, Mohammed Umar Abba, over the ongoing political crisis in Osun State. He accused the Commissioner of Police of failing to uphold the rule of law amidst heightened tensions between the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and opposition All Progressives Congress (APC).
The crisis stems from attempts by sacked local government chairmen, elected under the APC, to reclaim their positions despite court rulings removing them from office.
Gunfire erupted across several local government secretariats on Monday, February 17, 2025, as the dismissed chairmen and their supporters attempted to reclaim their offices, facing resistance from PDP members.
Unconfirmed reports has it that the chairman of Irewole Local Government Area was killed by unknown gunmen.
Davido took to X (formerly Twitter) and Instagram to publicly condemn the police chief, accusing him of misconduct and a blatant disregard for the law. He warned the commissioner against taking biased actions, vowing to post his picture every day until he is removed from his position.
Governor Ademola Adeleke, the uncle of Davido, has accused former Governor Gboyega Oyetola of attempting to create chaos in the state by employing security forces to reinstate the dismissed local government chairpersons, allegations that Oyetola has refuted.
Osun, which is governed by Davido’s uncle, Governor Ademola Adeleke, is witnessing increased tensions between the Peoples Democratic Party and the All Progressives Congress.
The situation stems from dismissed local government chairmen elected under the APC trying to retain their positions despite court judgements removing them from office.
Governor Adeleke hosted a press conference over the weekend, appealing to President Bola Tinubu to intervene and prevent his Minister, Gboyega Oyetola, from allegedly using security forces to reinstate the sacked chairmen.
He highlighted that any grievances should be addressed through legal appeals rather than resorting to coercive measures.
On Monday, February 17, 2025, several local government secretariats were the scene of gunfire as the dismissed chairmen and their supporters attempted to retake their offices, but were thwarted by strong opposition from PDP members.
Davido criticized the commissioner in a series of sharply worded remarks written in a combination of English and Pidgin, cautioning him against biased actions.
“Mr. Commissioner, please respect the rule of law. We are all entitled to equal treatment under the law. Let us all abide by the rules. I urge you to uphold the law. I will be monitoring your actions closely, Mr. Commissioner.” he wrote.
In another post, he added, “Mr Umar Abba, Osun State Commissioner, your behavior is unacceptable!!! Game on, Commissioner!!!! All of us go mad together!! Werey!!! Mr Commissioner, we die here.”
