WIRE-A sensitizes FCT rural women on clean cooking method

In commemoration of International Women’s Day, a Non Governmental Organization (NGO), Women -In Renewable Energy Associations (WIRE-A) in collaboration with Happy Stoves and Power Stoves held an awareness campaign in Gofe community in Kuje area council of the FCT to sensitize the women on the need to adopt clean cooking.
Speaking during the awareness campaign last Saturday, the WIRE-A vice president, Dr Anita Adeyemi Okuribido, encouraged more women to actively engage in the value chain through the training in order to scale up the impacts on humanity.
She said adopting to new cleaning method will ensure sustainability where the women are trained on producing their own cooking fuels(briquettes) from their agricultural waste.
According to her, the WIRE-A cook stove is an initiative aims to improve indoor environmental quality and reduce the health risks associated with traditional cooking methods in Nigeria.
She, therefore, expressed appreciation to “Happy Stoves/ Power Stoves” members of the advisory council of the organization and others who have contributed in various ways to ensure the successful awareness campaign exercise in the community.
In her goodwill message, the national President of WIRE-A, Chief Anita Okuribido, expressed happiness for the awareness campaign, while commending the chairman of the Association’s Energy Transition committee, Dr. Amina Batagarawa and her team for putting in place such project in Gofe Community.
She also commended the efforts of the regional and state Coordinators to ensure a very engaging time with the community women.
Highlights of the event were presentation of free stoves to over 100 rural women that were trained in the process of how-to produce their own briquettes.
