Nasarawa Assembly approves Ibrahim Musa as Clerk and Paul Okugya as Deputy Clerk
….After Sallah break, two bills were considered, including Hon. Solomon Akwashiki’s private bill to establish Lafia General Hospital
The Nasarawa State House of Assembly has approved the appointment of Mr. Ibrahim Abdulazeez Musa as the substantive Clerk of the House.
This appointment was confirmed recently, with the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Danladi Jatau, playing a key role in the approval process.
Mr. Ibrahim Musa had previously served as Acting Clerk and was also appointed as one of the pioneer Deputy Clerks/Permanent Secretaries before his elevation to substantive Clerk.
Ibrahim A. Musa served as the Acting Clerk of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly starting from December 6, 2023, during the ill health of the then Clerk, Ego Maikeffi Abashe.
Ego Abashe passed away on March 1, 2025. Following this, the House approved Ibrahim Musa’s appointment as the substantive Clerk of the House in April 2025.
The Speaker, Danladi Jatau, announced Musa’s appointment during House proceedings, also appointing Paul Okugya as Deputy Clerk.
Before his appointment as Deputy Clerk, Mr Paul Okugya was Director of Protocol of the House.
The Speaker congratulated them on their new elevations and wished them well in their new assignments just as he directed members to observe a minute silence in honour of the late Clerk, Mr Ego Maikeffi Abashe.
During its session on April 14, 2025, the Nasarawa State House of Assembly resumed after the Sallah break and addressed the first bill on the order paper: “A Bill for a Law to Amend the Re-enacted Nasarawa State House of Assembly Service Commission Law 2023 and Other Incidental Matters Thereto.” The bill passed its first reading after a motion by Hon. Suleiman Azara, House Leader, which was seconded by Minority Leader Hon. Luka Iliya Zhekaba. The Speaker scheduled April 28, 2025, for its second reading.
Hon. Solomon Yakubu Akwashiki, representing Lafia Central constituency at the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, recently presented a private member bill titled “A Bill for a Law to Establish Lafia General Hospital and Other Related Matters Thereto” for its first reading.

The bill was seconded by Barr. Esson Mairiga, the member representing Lafia North constituency. This initiative aligns with Hon. Akwashiki’s commitment to improving healthcare infrastructure and delivering democratic dividends to his constituents
The Speaker of the House, Dr. Danladi Jatau fixed 29th April 2025 for second reading of the bill.
