Unconstitutional dissolution: Nasarawa West NYCN stakeholders praise Jaafar M. Loko for protecting council’s interest

COMMUNIQUE ISSUED AT THE END OF THE MEETING OF NATIONAL YOUTH COUNCIL OF NIGERIA (NYCN) KEFFI ZONE, HELD IN KEFFI ON SUNDAY 11TH MAY, 2025.

The leadership of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (both Local Chapter Coordinators and State officials) of keffi Zone met in Keffi and after its meeting arrived at the following resolutions:

1. The meeting commended Comr. Jaafar Muhammad Loko for his steadfastness and decorum demonstrated during his illegal and unconstitutional dissolution of the duly elected officials of the state chapter of National Youth Council under his leadership by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Youths and Sports Development.

2. The meeting called for the retention of zoning arrangement earlier reached in December 2022 witnessed by the past Honourable Commissioner of Youths and Sports Development, Amb Isaac Yargwa which led to the emergence of Comr. Jaafar Muhammad Loko as the State Chairman of the Council from Keffi Zone.

3. The meeting unanimously passed a vote of confidence on the leadership of Comr. Jaafar Muhammad Loko based on his strives and laudable achievements in contributing to stability, peace and unity in the state.

4. The meeting warned against any attempt to temper with the mandate given to the duly elected officials led by Comr. Jaafar through caretaker or the conduct of any election before the expiration of his tenure in December 2026. The zone shall resist any attempt in that regard.

5. The meeting appreciated His Excellency, Governor Abdullahi A. Sule for restoring peace and stability in Toto, Udege Development Area, Agwada and other parts of the zone. It commended him for appointing illustrious sons and daughters from the zone into various positions including the appointment of Secretary to the Nasarawa State Government, Barr Labaran Shuaibu Magaji PhD,

6. It equally appreciates His Excellency, Engr Abdullahi A Sule, the Executive Governor of Nasarawa State for approving the construction of a long awaited flyover in Keffi and the spread of other infrastructures across the zone.

7. The meeting called on the stakeholders from the zone within and outside the Government to be warring of the plot by some elements to takeaway our mandate for state Chairman of Youth Council and urged them to join in this struggle to ensure that the leadership of the Council remains in the zone as earlier agreed and desist the inclusion of circular politics for personal interest at the detriment of the zone.

8. As the hub for mining activities in the state, the meeting pledged to collaborate with Government and security agencies to check the excess of illegal miners and ensure conducive atmosphere for mining firms in the zone.

9. The meeting enjoins the Governor and Federal Representatives from the zone to intensify efforts in drawing the attention of the Federal Government on the deteriorating nature and urgent need for Rehabilitation and Re-construction of Keffi-Nasarawa-Toto Road which is of immense economy value to the state.

10. We reiterates our commitments to upholding the sanctity of the rule of law, peace, stability and ensuring unity among young people as well as obedience to constituted authorities. Cohesion, tolerance and understanding will continue to take center stage in discharging our responsibilities as leaders.

11. The meeting made a passionate appeal to the Executive Chairmen of Local Government Council from the Zone to initiate policies, programmes and activities that are geared towards youth developments and empowerments at the grassroots to improve their living standard and welfare.

12. The meeting commended the leadership of the state ministry of Youth and Sports Development especially Commissioner, Hon Yakubu Kwanta and Permanent Secretary for saving the situation by giving instruction to ensure obedience to the Order of the Court which restrained the Conduct of any election and voided the previous action taken by the ministry and the President of NYCN, this is a demonstration of commitment to the rule of law as one of cardinal objective of Engr Abdullahi A Sule led administration. We urged the ministry to sustain and implement all other items contained in the Court order as we continue to search for other possible means of resolving the matter amicably.
