NCDC appointment: We’ll resist any attempt by Adodo to divide, govern us through use of threats, incendiary comments- FCT natives

Natives of the FCT under the umbrella of the FCT Youth Stakeholders Forum (FYSF) said it would resist any attempt by the appointed board member of the newly established North Central Development Commission (NCDC) representing the FCT, Mr Solomon Adodo to divide the indigenous people of the territory through use of threat and incendiary comments.
The secretary of the forum, Comrade Zakari Gambo Babale, stated this during a press conference late Friday, evening in Abuja, while reacting to comments from Adodo on his Facebook comment.
He said it was unfortunate that despite the natives were against the appointment Adodo into the NCDC board to represent the FCT, Adodo had through his facebook page on the 22nd May, 2025 allegedly took responsibility for the attack on the peaceful protesters by stating that “I came, I saw the situation and with the support of security from the presidency, they were cleared like rats”.
He said statement coming from Adodo suggests that he came to the protest venue and sort the help of security forces to attack the peaceful FCT natives protesters.
He said Adodo had in the same post accused the indigenous people of the FCT of being the cause of his vehicle to be involved in accident, adding that Adodo further allegedly went on to declare war on the indigenous people of the FCT via the same post by saying that there is a “grinding war” awaiting anyone who opposes his nomination and appointment.
He said he wondered how can Adodo who wants to represent the indigenous people of the FCT in the NCDC commission refer to his would-be constituents as “Rats” and say that he is ready to wage war against them.
“And we find these comments incendiary, unacceptable and a dangerous trend being introduced into FCT politics by power hungry individuals. We call on the appointing authority and security agencies to take note and call Solomon Adodo to order to prevent a breakdown of law and order,” he said.
Babale, however, said that the natives are more acquainted with the person and character of Solomon Adodo, hence, the world to bear the natives witness that, Adodo should be held responsible should there be any break down of law and order in the FCT, since he has resulted to violent acts, actions and inactions
“Hence, the FCT natives insist that Adodo through his antecedents does not have the requisite integrity, character and personality to hold such position,” he said.
He added”and to even think that Solomon Adodo is to represent the FCT people has been celebrating the deployment of security forces to violently disperse our people during a peaceful protest is highly unacceptable. If Solomon Adodo is given leadership position over the indigenous people of the FCT, it means he would do worse to us and other residents while in power,”Babale stated.
The natives, however, said it received the news of the nomination of Solomon Adodo, an indigene of Benue State as representative for the FCT on the board of the North Central Development Commission (NCDC) with shock and utter dismay as it was done in bad faith and outright violation of the provisions of the law establishing the NCDC.
He said the natives after exhausting all possible means of lobbying eventually wrote to reject the said nomination to both chambers of the National Assembly, office of the Inspector General of Police, Department of State Security Service and other relevant government bodies, but no no avail.
“The FCT natives were were left with no choice than to stage a peaceful protest to the National Assembly complex to physically register our petition against Adodo’s nomination.
According to him, during the natives peaceful protest, which he said lasted for hours with no attention from the National Assembly leadership, the natives were eventually greeted by a hostile team of policemen who fired teargas canisters at our peaceful protesters including from a short range.
“And this unfortunately resulted in several of the FCT natives being injured with the death recorded of one of us, Kamaludeen Mohammed Karshi at Abuja national hospital,” he said.
The natives, therefore, appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the National Assembly leadership to reconsider the nomination of an alleged ex-convict, Solomon Adodo from manning a sensitive position as a board member of the North Central Development Commission (NCDC).
“The FCT natives want President Tinubu and Nigerians to know that we have capable and qualified people who could be appointed into the board of the NCDC inline with the act establishing the commission, which states unequivocally that, only indigenes from the member states shall be appointed to represent their states,” he said.
