2026 poll: FCT YPP inaugurates Abaji council, ward executives

Ahead of the February 21, 2026 chairmanship/councilorship elections, the FCT chapter of the Young Progressives Party (YPP), has inaugurated Abaji area council chapter and ward executives of the party.
The inauguration which held on Saturday, at the party’s secretariat, has Hon Alhassan Suleiman as YPP chapter chairman, Hon Sunday Tukura, deputy chairman, Yunusa Mairiga, Secretary, Isah Yimaba, Assistant Secretary, Yunusa Daudu, Treasurer, Yahaya Abagana, financial secretary, Mohammed Ndaba, organising secretary, Chinedu Omeke, Publicity Secretary alongside 14 others.
Speaking during the inauguration of the local government executives, the state chairman of YPP in the FCT, Abraham Simeon Adedotun, congratulated the new executives while urging them to ensure they work as a team in order to ensure the victory at the polls.
He said there was the need for the new local government party executives to ensure a synergy with the ward executives of the party towards ensuring that the party sweeps both chairmanship and councilorship across the ten wards of the council.
The Abaji chapter chairman of the YPP, Hon Alhassan Suleiman, who spoke on behalf of the local government executives, appreciated the state executive of the party for taken their time to come ane inaugurate the local government executives in Abaji.
He expressed confidence that the new YPP party, which he said has structures across the ten wards of the council, will dislodged the ruling APC under the leadership of Abubakar Umar Abdullahi during the February 21, 2026 council election.
“And it may interest our August visitors to note that, even the last election, we won convincingly, but the mandate was stolen. And I want assure the state executives of this great party, that YPP shall send APC packing come February 21, 2026 election by the grace of God,”he said.
Also speaking, the YPP chairmanship candidate for the February 21, 2026 election in the area, Hon Muhammad Angulu Loko, appreciated the state executive of the YPP for him the platform to contest for the forthcoming election in the council.
He expressed confidence that YPP shall form the next government of Abaji area council, saying his administration will not betray the trust the party has in him.
He said he was elated with the massive support YPP has started gaining across the nook and crannies of the council within a week of its emergence in the council, saying YPP had gotten its councilorship candidates across the ten wards of the council.
“And also among we the five chairmanship aspirants under the YPP, it was unanimously resolved and adopted me as the party’s sole candidate for the chairmanship come February 21, 2016 election,”he said.
The YPP chairmanship candidate, therefore, commended other aspirant which included Hon Mohammed Inuwa Ashafa, Dr Sidi Ali, Hon Yahaya Garba Gawu, Hon Isah Abini and other stakeholders of the council for choosing him as sole candidate under the party.
Hon Loko, also recalled how he was rubbed of his mandate during the last council election in 2022, under the APC, in which he said he won the APC ticket but INEC allegedly removed his replaced it with the incumbent chairman of the council Abubakar Umar Abdullahi.

“After INEC removed by name despite I won the APC chairmanship primary, we went to Court, I won at the high court, I still won at the Appeal Court, until the supreme Court overturned it in favor of the incumbent chairman but all is now history,”he said.
