FCT poll: Maikalangu, Shekwolo, Yahaya, Ishaku, Abdullahi win APC chairmanship primaries

The incumbent chairman of the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) Hon Christopher Zakka Maikalangu, Hon Danjuma Samuel Shekwolo, Alhaji Usman Yahaya, Joshua Musa Ishaku as well as the incumbent chairman of Abaji area council, Abubakar Umar Abdullahi have emerged winners of the All Progressives Congress (APC) chairmanship primaries for the February 21, 2026, council election in the FCT.
Our correspondent report that, the APC chairmanship delegates primaries, which held its across the six area councils on Wednesday, to elect its flagbearers, was supervised by INEC officials amid tight security.
Dr Habib Ibrahim, the electoral committee chairman for AMAC chairmanship primaries, declared Hon Maikalangu as the APC chairmanship candidate of the council, which he said two other aspirants, Barrister Sylvernus T. Piwoyi and Chidawa Karshi withdrew from the contest.
In Abaji area council, the incumbent council chairman, Abubakar Umar Abdullahi, who is the sole candidate of APC, emerged unopposed, while Alhaji Usman Yahaya, emerged winner of the primaries for Gwagwalada area council, after two other aspirants, Mohammed Ibrahim Inuwa and Saidu Abdullahi Zuba, withdrew from the race.
The electoral committee chairman for the primaries, Alhaji Shafiu Duwal, declared Usman Yahaya as the party’s chairmanship candidate for Gwagwalada area council, after the two aspirants withdrew from the contest.
Also, Hon Danjuma Samuel Shekwolo emerged as the party’s chairmanship candidate for Kuje area council, after two other chairmanship aspirants, Hon Shaban Ishaku Tete and Hajiya Aishat Yakubu withdrew from the race.
The electoral committee chairman for the primaries in Kuje, Barrister Yakubu Bello, declared Shekwolo as the APC chairmanship candidate, in which he said two other aspirants withdrew from the race.
“As the electoral committee chairman for the APC chairmanship primaries for Kuje area council of the FCT. Hon Danjuma Samuel Shekwolo, haven satisfied with the requirements of the law, is hereby as the APC chairmanship candidate for Kuje area council after two other aspirants withdrew from the race,” he said.
While Hon Joshua Musa Ishaku was declared as the APC chairmanship candidate for Bwari area council.
