FCT poll: YPP unveils chairmanship candidate for Abaji area council

Alhaji Mohammed Angulu Loko has emerged as the chairmanship candidate of the Young Progressives Party (YPP) for the February 21, 2026, chairmanship election in Abaji Area Council of the FCT.

Our correspondent, report that, Loko, who is the sole candidate of the party, emerged through affirmation, which was supervised by the officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The chairman of the electoral committee, Comrade Wale Martins, who is also the returning officer in the election, which held on Monday, at the party’s secretariat, the chairmanship candidate emerged through affirmation in line with the YPP’s constitution and extant laws of elections

He said an option A4 was adopted, which he said was in line with the party’s guidelines and 100 delegates were accredited, in which Loko emerged as the party’s chairmanship candidate after he got 98 votes.

He also affirmed the ten councilorship aspirants as the party’s candidates for the February 21, 2026, councilorship election in the council.

“And it is on this premise that, I, Adewale Moruf, the electoral committee chairman, who is also the returning officer for the YPP chairmanship and councilorship election, hereby affirmed Hon Mohammed Angulu Loko as the YPP chairmanship candidate for February 21, 2026, council election, alongside the ten councilorship candidates,”he said.

Speaking shortly after the affirmation, the Abaji chapter chairman of YPP, Alhaji Alhassan Suleiman, said the party was ready to hit the ground running in order to dislodge the ruling APC administration during the forthcoming election in the council.

He said the masses are eager to ensure that there is change of government, saying the YPP chairmanship candidate already has structures across the ten wards of the council.

“Besides, the YPP chairmanship candidate was one time chairman of Abaji area council, and most of his projects are still on ground across the ten wards, which by the grace of God, we shall emerge victorious at the polls,”he said.
