Kogi lawmaker Idrees Maikudi reacts to attack on Commissioner Bashir Gegu
…..Says God has disgraced those daredevils again
Honourable Idrees Aliyu Maikudi, representing Kogi Constituency at the State House of Assembly, has strongly condemned the attack on the convoy of the Honourable Commissioner for Solid Minerals and Natural Resources, Engr. Chief Muhammed Abubakar Bashir Gegu, which took place in Kogi Local Government.
The Commissioner narrowly escaped an assassination attempt on Friday, July 25, 2025, while returning to his hometown of Gegu Beki after attending an event at the palace of the Ohimegye Igu Koton Karfe.
Unknown assailants ambushed his convoy, firing shots in an attempt on his life. Thanks to the swift action of his security detail, the Commissioner and everyone in the convoy—including prominent government officials such as Hon. Abdulmalik Musa, Hon. Abdullahi Idowu, and others came out unharmed.
Hon. Idrees Aliyu Maikudi in a statement issued to Journalists on Friday evening condemned the recent attack as uncivilized and unacceptable, linking it to Commissioner Gegu’s generosity and widespread support in Kogi Local Government and beyond.

The lawmaker called on security agencies to increase surveillance and adopt proactive measures to protect citizens and maintain order.
He urged community leaders and youth groups to collaborate with security operatives to promote peace and security.
Hon. Maikudi reaffirmed his commitment to peace and socio-economic development, aligned with Governor Usman Ahmed Ododo’s policy of zero tolerance for crime.
