Peter Obi Accuses President Tinubu of Feeding Nigerians Wrong Statistics

The 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has accused President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of worsening poverty in Nigeria and misleading the public with false economic statistics.

Obi stated that under Tinubu’s administration, Nigeria is now classified as one of the hungriest nations, with millions of citizens unsure of where their next meal will come from.

He recalled that Tinubu, during the 2023 election campaigns, criticized Obi for frequently quoting statistics, yet now, as president, Tinubu allegedly uses incorrect data about unemployment, inflation, and GDP to mask the deteriorating economic conditions.

The former Governor of Anambra State emphasized that governance requires sincerity, competence, and compassion, suggesting Tinubu’s administration lacks these qualities.

He warned that overfeeding Nigerians with wrong statistics harms truthfulness and accountability, which are crucial for effective leadership.

Obi also highlighted broader socio-economic challenges in Nigeria, including rising poverty rates and insecurity.

This critique aligns with data indicating Nigeria hosts a substantial portion of the extremely poor population in sub-Saharan Africa and faces significant inflation and unemployment issues.

Peter Obi charges President Tinubu with failing to improve Nigerians’ living conditions and deliberately manipulating economic data to create a misleadingly positive impression of the country’s state

Obi’s statements are part of ongoing political discourse contrasting the economic reality with the official statistics promoted by the Tinubu government.

Obi noted that governance is not rocket science and urged President Tinubu to rule with purpose, character, competence, capacity and compassion.

He wrote: “In November 2022, while campaigning in Delta State, the then APC Presidential Candidate, Bola Tinubu, now the President, berated the other Presidential Candidate (Peter Obi), he was ashamed to call his name, saying “Na statistics we go chop all I want is to put food on the table of Nigerians”.

“Now 2 years into his 4-year tenure, Nigeria is classified as one of the hungriest nations in the world with millions of Nigerians not knowing where their next meal will come from.

“President Tinubu is now overfeeding Nigerians with wrong Statistics from wrong unemployment figures, wrong inflation figures, and now GDP debasing, all to put a positive spin on our deteriorating economic and household conditions.

“Governance is not a rock science, it’s not a gamble, like I have always reiterated, it requires sincerity of purpose, character, competence, capacity and compassion.
