Gov. Sule Donates 500 Mattresses to Keffi Correctional Service

Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule, has fulfilled his commitment to improving the welfare of correctional officers and inmates by donating 500 mattresses to the Keffi Correctional Service.

The donation was presented on Tuesday at the new Keffi Correctional facility by the Commissioner for Security and Sundry Matters, retired CP Usman Baba.

It will be recalled that on August 11, 2025, sixteen inmates escaped from the Keffi Custodial Correctional Service, causing tension among staff, government officials, and the public.

Worried by the situation, Governor Abdullahi Sule visited the correctional facility to sympathize with officers over the incident.

During his visit, he lamented the poor bedding conditions of inmates and pledged to provide mattresses, a promise he has now fulfilled.

While handing over 500 mattresses to the Controller of Corrections, Nasarawa State Command, Hanish Charles.The Commissioner for Security and Sundry Matters, retired CP Usman Baba, said the donation was necessitated by the Governor’s commitment to assist the correctional facility following the jailbreak.

“They should ensure these mattresses are used properly for their intended purpose, providing better comfort for the inmates, regardless of their circumstances,” he advised.

Usman Baba affirmed that this gesture demonstrates Governor Sule’s dedication to enhancing the living conditions of correctional officers and inmates, promoting a more humane and rehabilitative environment within the facility.

Hanish Charles, the Controller of Corrections, Nasarawa State Command, thanked Governor Sule for the gesture and promised to utilize the mattresses judiciously.

“We appreciate His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Nasarawa State, for bringing these 500 mattresses to the inmates for their comfort. He has fulfilled his promise, and this is helping us in the reformation of inmates,” Charles said.

The Controller emphasized that they have been receiving support from both the federal government and state governments, as well as non-governmental organizations, and solicited more assistance to enable inmates feel a sense of belonging.
