President Tinubu Commended for Economic Reforms

The Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of NUEL PetroGas and Energy Development Company Limited, Dr. Haruna Madisca Achile, has lauded the bold and strategic economic reforms currently being implemented by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the ministry of science and innovation under the leadership of hon Geofrey Nnaji as the minister and Dr Mustapha Abdullahi as the director general (DG)

Dr. Madisca gave this commendation shortly after signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Energy Commission of Nigeria, a landmark agreement that marks the beginning of a new phase in Nigeria’s renewable energy and industrial growth.

According to Dr. Madisca, NUEL PetroGas and Energy Development Company has also entered into a strategic partnership with the Government of China to facilitate the production of electric motors, electric motorbikes, and the large-scale manufacturing of solar power equipment in Nigeria. This initiative, he explained, is aimed at tackling the country’s persistent electricity and energy supply challenges, while simultaneously supporting the government’s clean energy drive.

He stressed that if the present reforms are sustained and fully implemented, Nigeria is poised to experience an unprecedented economic transformation. Dr. Madisca highlighted that the newly signed MoU will fast-track national development, generate thousands of employment opportunities, and directly help to curb insecurity. He pointed out that many youths who drift into criminal activities often do so because of unemployment and poverty, and that the private sector has a moral and economic obligation to complement government efforts.

“The development of our country cannot be left solely in the hands of government,” he noted. “It requires the collective input of the private sector and all patriotic Nigerians. President Tinubu’s liberalization of the energy sector deserves commendation. Nigerians should seize the opportunity by developing innovative ideas and business solutions that will add positive value to the economy, rather than merely complaining about challenges.”

Dr. Madisca further appreciated the Chinese government for its confidence in Nigeria and for agreeing to invest in this forward-looking partnership. He assured the Chinese partners of a robust collaboration that will not only boost electricity generation and energy supply but also significantly reduce harmful carbon emissions associated with the use of fossil fuels such as petrol and diesel.

Industry observers note that Nigeria has grappled with the chronic problem of inadequate electricity supply for decades, a challenge that has constrained economic growth and industrialization. The latest collaboration between NUEL PetroGas, the Energy Commission of Nigeria, and the Chinese government is therefore seen as a positive and timely development.

It was gathered that the project is expected to serve as a model for public–private partnership, encouraging other Nigerian entrepreneurs to invest in clean energy and industrial innovation. Stakeholders and citizens alike are being urged to embrace these reforms and actively contribute to the nation’s economic renewal and sustainable energy future.
