Is the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Act, Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU), and the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC) constitutional or not?
Is EFCC law applicable to states?
The Supreme Court has proceeded with the suit filed by the Attorney General of Kogi State and 15 others against the Attorney General of the Federation.
The EFCC’s actions were deemed substantially illegal when they assumed jurisdiction over arrests, investigations, and prosecutions relating to financial offenses properly belonging to state authorities.
The Supreme Court has heard the suit and reserved judgment; the parties will be communicated regarding the judgment delivery date.
Following the expected judgment, Nigerians and the global community will gain clarity, and the verdict will also provide guidance to the EFCC and other Anti-corruption Agencies on conducting operations.
