Anyanwu admonishes Ndigbo to shun protest against Tinubu

Southeast chieftain and former member of the National Executive Committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Nduka Anyanwu, has admonished ndigbo to shun the planned nationwide protest against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led administration in the country by groups.
Our correspondent reports that some Nigerians are mobilising for nationwide protest slated for August 1 to August 10, 2024, citing the widespread hunger and inflation in the country.
But berating the proposed nationwide protest by group of Nigerians, Anyanwu, the immediate-past Board chairman of Administrative Staff College of Nigeria (ASCON), described the planned action as unnecessary, insisting that it was conceived by anti-democratic forces to
to pitch the masses against President Tinubu-led administration in the country.
He told ndigbo that current mood of the country requires collective support and cooperation of Nigerians to enable the present federal government implement its development-oriented polices and programmes targeted in enhancing the nation’s economy and critical infrastructures.
Anyanwu informed them that the present federal government has demonstrated unwavering commitment in the development of the southeast region, pointing out the recent signing of South-East Development Commission bill into law by President Tinubu, which will see to the reconstruction and rehabilitation of roads, houses and other infrastructural damages suffered by the zone during the civil war with fund allocation from federal government account.
He said: “This bill assented by the President will equally solve ecological problems and other related challenges impeding the socio-economic and infrastructural development of states in the southeast region.
“And i must say that the establishment of South-East Development Commission is the best thing that had happened to the Igbo nation. Apart from that, this present government had embarked on total construction of federal roads, and others are ongoing and will soon be completed to ensure ease of transportation of goods within and outside the southeast.
“The president had also launched students loan scheme aimed at helping our children in tertiary institutions in the country to attain academic greatness, without financial obstacles. This loan scheme will lessen burdens and challenges our parents faced in raising money to sponsor education of their children. And many igbo students have applied and enrolled to benefit from this loan scheme, which has a long-term repayment”.
“Hopefully, our brother, Nnamdi Kanu will soon be released. Because, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu is listening president. And sooner than later, he will heed to our pleadings for Kanu’s release. So, I don’t see any reason ndigbo should participate in the planned protest against present government addressed the issue of marginalization of igbos in the schemes of things in the country.
This government had flagged off the dredging of Oguta Seaport, and just past few months ago, this government commissioned Geometric power plant in Aba to encourage artisans and Small and Medium scale business entrepreneurs, especially those into manufacturing/production. Go to Aba, you will enjoy 24 hours uninterrupted power supply, unlike the past they encountered challenges in business production”.
Anyanwu reminded organisers of the planned nationwide protests to shelve actions and be patient with President Bola Tinubu, and as well as support his administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda propagated in recovering the Nigeria economy, improve and build more infrastructures, including ending headlong acts of criminalities associated with bandits, kidnappers and terrorists.
He further drew the attention of Nigerian citizens to huge financial allocations received by state governors from federal government, urging organisers of this ill-conceived protests to hold their respective leaders accountable for the systematic failures in the country, and the hardship and hunger in Nigeria.

The party stalwart said: “The President must not be blamed for everything happening currently in the nation. Citizens should hold the governors responsible for failing them. These people are being accrued huge funds for development of their respective states, but at the end of the whole thing, the funds are pocketed, and stashed away to overseas, leaving the masses to suffer and wallow in abject poverty and starvation.
He reiterated his admonition to the people of the southeast against joining the planned actions and never allowed serial election losers to use them in wrecking havoc in the country, and as well, indulge in destructive tendencies, such as vandalization of government- owned infrastructure under the guise of protest.
