BSUTH: Dr. Hwande Should Prove Acquisition of a New MRI Machine

Benue Advocacy Network (BAN) is left with no choice but to respond to the fabrications and misleading information propagated by a faceless group which goes by the name ‘Govaliamediavanguard’ apparently working for the administration of Governor Hyacinth Alia.

The group has claimed among other shocking falsehoods that the current Chief Medical Director of Benue State University Teaching Hospital (BSUTH), Dr. Hwande, purchased a new Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) machine for the hospital to replace the one provided by the previous administration of Governor Samuel Ortom. This lie further demonstrates how the current administration is driven solely by falsehoods intended to deceive the people.

Since the current management of the hospital took over, the people of the state have been fed propaganda, exaggerated claims, and empty rhetoric about its performance. In reality, they have done nothing to improve the situation at the hospital. Patients continue to die from minor and preventable issues. BSUTH often goes many days without water and electricity. The toilets and other facilities are in dilapidated condition, yet the Chief Medical Director and his team are busy sponsoring their praises on social media.

Upon assuming office, the current BSUTH management hurriedly assembled used and discarded empty drug cartons and staged a show claiming to have discovered expired drugs at the hospital. This propaganda was merely meant to tarnish the reputation of the previous administration. It was a fake and stage-managed spectacle akin to a movie.

We understand that the current management of BSUTH is under intense criticisms from the people of Benue State, who have discovered their deceit and propaganda as false in the face of the hospital’s poor services and deplorable condition under their leadership. The claim that Dr. Hwande’s management team replaced the MRI machine purchased and installed by the previous government is therefore only an attempt to divert attention from the public backlash they are facing.

It is on record that the previous administration of Chief Ortom acquired state-of-the-art MRI and two Dialysis Machines from Siemens, installed the equipment, and made them fully operational before handing over to the current government.
The previous administration also RENOVATED a twin-theatre complex Ward including surgical, medical, gynecology, pediatric, intensive care, amenity, orthopedic, ophthalmology, and neonatal wards and a well-equipped Centre for Emerging Infectious Diseases and Tropical Diseases Intelligence.

The MRI machine began operating on a 24-hour basis, attracting patronage from neighbouring states such as Enugu, Nasarawa, Kogi, and Taraba, which utilized the hospital’s advanced medical technology. This influx generated additional revenue for the hospital and the state government. BSUTH has since recovered the funds spent on acquiring the equipment.

If Dr. Hwande claims that he replaced the MRI machine provided and installed by the Ortom administration, we challenge him to produce proof of such a replacement. The BSUTH MD should make public documents of the alleged MRI machine they claimed to have purchased detailing the date, place of purchase and the manufacturer of the equipment. Otherwise, he should remain silent.

Lastly, we wish to let the present government know that any form of lie they peddle again against the previous administration will be met with an equal response. The Alia administration has made so much money from monthly federal allocations, and all that the people of the state expect from them is sincere service and accountability, not propaganda, deception and diversion of attention.
