Chinese President Xi Jinping Holds Talks with Morocco’s Crown Prince Moulay El Hassan
Chinese President Xi Jinping made a brief visit to Morocco on Thursday, where he was received by Crown Prince Moulay El Hassan in Casablanca. Xi’s visit followed his attendance at the G20 Summit in Brazil.
China has increased investments in Morocco’s infrastructure and rail sector in recent years.
The combination of Morocco’s proximity to Europe, its free trade agreements with key EU and U.S. markets, and its existing automotive sector make it an appealing location for Chinese electric vehicle battery producers.
In June, Morocco was chosen by Gotion High Tech, a Chinese EV battery manufacturer, as the site for Africa’s first gigafactory, with an investment of $1.3 billion.
