Court Jails Globally Notorious Man, Baltasar Engonga for embezzlement

A court in Equatorial Guinea has sentenced Baltasar Ebang Engonga, a senior official and former head of the national financial investigation agency, to 8 years in prison for embezzlement.

The Bioko provincial tribunal found him guilty of diverting funds allocated for professional travel expenses for personal use. This ruling was confirmed by Supreme Court press director Hilario Mitogo via WhatsApp.

In addition to the prison sentence, Engonga, also known as “Bello,” was fined $220,000. He, along with five other senior officials, faced accusations of misappropriating hundreds of thousands of dollars in the oil-rich Central African country.

Baltasar Ebang Engonga became globally notorious last November after a series of sex tapes involving him and the wives of fellow officials surfaced online, adding a scandalous dimension to the case.

Some of the videos were reportedly filmed in his finance ministry office sparking widespread ridicule, parodies & even a spoof virility dr+g dubbed “Balthazariem.” Mitogo confirmed that the provincial court delivered its verdict on Wednesday, bringing a close to the high-profile case
