Delta Govt Promises Quality Delivery on Bezi, Orhuwhorun Roads Amid Delays — Izeze
Delta State Commissioner for Works (Highways and Urban Roads), Comrade Reuben Izeze, has assured residents of Udu Local Government Area that the ongoing construction of Bezi Road in Aladja and Orhuwhorun Road will be completed to meet both engineering standards and Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s expectations.
Izeze gave the assurance at weekend, during an inspection of the projects, where he admitted that progress had been slowed by design reviews, construction firm delays, and the need for additional approvals to address flooding challenges in the area.
He explained that the original contract failed to capture critical drainage systems, which made the project vulnerable to flooding.
According to him, additional drains have now been incorporated into the design to ensure durability and lasting relief for residents.
“As you can see today, if those additional drains were not constructed, floodwater would have taken over the entire space. The essence of government’s intervention is to bring support to the people, because that place was suffering from flooding. That was why His Excellency graciously approved the road in the first place,” the commissioner stated.
He, however, expressed dissatisfaction with the slow pace of the contractor, noting that despite not being on site, the firm had delayed mobilization. He directed them to return fully to site by Monday to complete drainage works, stonebase and prepare the roads for asphalting ahead of inauguration.
On the Orhuwhorun Road project, Izeze described the situation as a “go-no-go” case, likening it to a stuck drill pipe in oil exploration.
He disclosed that design investigations revealed complications that require further approval from Governor Oborevwori before construction can advance.
“We cannot move forward until this is achieved. The local government has already cleared the right of way, and preliminary works have been done. But until the design is finalized and approved, we cannot proceed.
“My responsibility is to respectfully brief His Excellency on the realities on ground, so that the final project will stand the test of time,” he said.
The commissioner reaffirmed the government’s determination not to compromise on quality, stressing that every project under Governor Oborevwori’s administration must reflect durability and value for money.
“His Excellency is committed to ensuring that whatever project carries his name is one that endures. That is why we will take the time to get it right,” Izeze added.
