We strongly reiterate the allegations made by various participating political parties in the election, pointing to breaches of established results collation procedures that violate the Electoral Act 2022.
Allegations of partisanship by security agencies, notably the Police, before and during the election, have cast a shadow on the exercise’s legitimacy, as reflected in numerous troubling reports. This leaves much room for improvement.
We particularly note and reference the decision of the umpire to bypass its rules and regulations in halting the collation of the election results in Ikpoba-Okha, Oredo and Egor Local Government Areas (Collation Centers) and moving same to the State INEC headquarters.
It is also worrisome that some agents of political parties were excluded from the collation exercise, thereby casting shadows on the transparency of the eventual results from the collation exercise.
We believe these conducts are condemnable and call to question the integrity of the umpire in the exercise.
While we hope that these lapses will be properly investigated and addressed by INEC, we continue to ask for free, fair and credible elections.
We appeal that the process should reflect the true will of the people of Edo state. For us, who ever wins fairly is fine and will be congratulated in the spirit of sportsmanship
Thanks
