Thomas Partey is a Ghanaian professional footballer born on June 13, 1993, who plays as a defensive midfielder. He began his career at Atlético Madrid in 2013, with loan spells at Mallorca and Almería, before establishing himself at Atlético, where he won the UEFA Europa League (2018) and UEFA Super Cup (2018), and played in the 2016 UEFA Champions League final.

In October 2020, Partey transferred to Arsenal for £45 million, becoming the most expensive Ghanaian player ever. He wore the number 18 shirt and quickly became a key player for Arsenal, known for his powerful midfield presence.

He scored his first Arsenal goal in October 2021 and was named Arsenal’s player of the month in February 2022.

Despite injuries in the 2023–24 season, he returned strongly in 2024, scoring important goals and earning praise from manager Mikel Arteta for his consistency.

Internationally, Partey debuted for Ghana in 2016 and has represented the country in three Africa Cup of Nations tournaments and the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

He has been Ghana’s vice-captain and won Ghana Player of the Year in 2018 and 2019.

As of mid-2025, Partey’s contract with Arsenal expired, and he is currently without a club.

In July 2025, he was charged by the Crown Prosecution Service in the UK with five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault relating to alleged incidents between 2021 and 2022, which he denies.

Former Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey has been charged with five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault by the Metropolitan Police in London.

The charges involve three different women, with two counts of rape related to one woman, three counts related to another, and one count of sexual assault involving a third.

The alleged incidents reportedly occurred between 2021 and 2022.

Partey, aged 32, who played for Arsenal from 2020 until his contract ended in June 2025, was initially detained in July 2022 but continued to play while the investigation was ongoing.

He denies all allegations and is cooperating with the authorities, with his lawyer stating he looks forward to clearing his name.

He is scheduled to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on August 5, 2025.

The Crown Prosecution Service authorized the prosecution after reviewing a detailed file of evidence, emphasizing the importance of a fair trial and cautioning against prejudicial public commentary.

Detective Superintendent Andy Furphy, overseeing the investigation, highlighted the priority of supporting the women who came forward and encouraged anyone with information to contact the police.

This case has attracted significant public and media attention given Partey’s profile as a professional footballer and former Arsenal key player.
