Frivolous Highlife of 2025 Benin Club Golf Section Executive Members – By Ojeifo Clifford
Several of the activities of the 2025 Executive Committee members of the Edo Club Golf Section, ECGS, has come under scrutiny in the past one week. Last week, it was alleged that Air Vice Marshal Aliyu was suspended for exposing fraud around some members of the exco. Bar. Emmanuel Usoh and the section’s accountant, Mr. Emmanuel Aondoaver, were fingered in the alleged fraud running into millions where expenditures were padded. From a reliable source, the AVM Hassan Aliyu has petitioned the police to investigate the matter as to unravel the fraud and prosecute those directly involved.
This week, more revelations are coming out: it is alleged that the 2025 Excos have reported spent over two million Naira(#2,000,000) on Whiskeys and other beverages just 48 hours after their inauguration.
This allegation, which they have not denied, raises concerns, particularly as they subsequently proposed an increase in the club’s joining fee from #500,000 Naira to #1 million Naira.
The exco is also suggesting to raise annual subscription fee from #75,000 to #100,000, and implementing a more than 200% hike in green fees. It has been revealed that these proposed increment were meant to fund the high-cost lifestyle of the exco members. However, after thorough consideration, the club members decisively rejected all proposed motions, choosing instead to maintain the current fee structure.
In other related event, it was said that the stewards and bartenders of BCGS were captured on CCTV hosting an illegal party after close of official business while consuming drinks and smoking shisha. To date, the exco has approached the matter with lackadaisical attitude, seemingly brushing aside the issue. This gives credence to the allegations that some of the exco members are having carnal relationship with the stewards and bartenders – a matter that is making the rounds.
This shameful situation has left many of the club’s long-standing members deeply concerned, with some expressing their chagrin and dismay, choosing to distance themselves from the current state of affairs of the BCGS.
Some members who do not want to be quoted said this current exco is not fit for purpose as their continues stay might lead to the destruction of BCGS beyond repair.
