Just in: Group alert Kogi Gov’t, public over installation of Muyiwa as new Elulu of Mopa

….In Contravention of the Order of the High Court, Koton-Karfe

…..We’re deeply concerns about the speed, secret and night installation of a new king — Kingmakers, elders

Tension mounts in Mopa, following the coronation of Mr. Muyiwa Ibeun as permanent headship and Elulu of Mopa by the traditional council headed by Chief David Saul Olojo, who led some few selected King Makers to perform the traditional rites, despite High Court Koton-karfe restraining order.

This, action do not only negate civility, rather against Kogi State government and a pending High Court Koton-karfe order restraining further action on the matter pending the determination of the suit.

Speaking on the matter, the Patriotic Youth for Good Leadership in a statement issued on Saturday, condemns the action of the Mopa Traditional Council, MTC, for defiling court order and Kogi State Government.

The intelligence news reports that the occasion was secretly Held in the night, at the Mopa township hall, where Chief Muyiwa Ibeun was illegally installed to avoid suspicious and public revolt against illegality.

The group noted that the coronation of new Elulu of Mopa was in gross violation of the existing Suit at the High Court Koton-Karfe, Kogi State, challenging the Selection and Nomination Process of the next Elulu.

It would be recalled that the Existing Chieftaincy Rotational Agreement was between the four Ruling Houses in the area and the matter is pending before the High Court, Koton-Karfe.

The Patriotic Youth for Good Leadership has called the attention of the Kogi State Government and the general public to the clandestine event of the night of May 17, 2024, perpetuated by the Mopa Traditional Council (MTC) at the Mopa township hall, where Chief Muyiwa Ibeun was installed as the new Elulu of Mopa.

The group in a statement on Saturday and made available to newsmen in Lokoja, Kogi State capital, described the action as purely gross violation of the existing Suit before the High Court Koton Karfe of Kogi State.

“The Selection and Nomination Process of the Next ELULU is being challenged, based on the Existing Chieftaincy Rotational Agreement between the 4 Ruling Houses in mopa, we were surprised to hear about his installation despite restraining order.”

The group recalled that the High Court setting in Koton-Karfe, Kogi Local Government Area of the State had in a ruling issued an interim Order directing all parties to maintain status quo ante.

The Otunba of Mopa, who is the 1st Defendant before the High Court Koton-karfe, on the 17th day of May secretly installed the said Muyiwa Ibeun at Night wherein selected members of his traditional Council were present and some who stood against the process were not present based on the Existing Order of the Court.

“This is a clear indication of a determined intent of MTC to disrespect legal process and overturn justice.”

“We are surprised by the speed and secrecy associated with this illegal installation event of a first class Oba supervising not only Mopa but the entire Mopamuro traditional council.”

“This is a desperation taken too far, Ordinarily a celebration of this magnitude call for state, national and global participation. Our suspicion for this is not unconnected with a grand plan by MTC to impose an illegal Elulu on the good people of Mopa before any decision of the court on the matter.”

“We reiterate our stand that while we await the court decision on this matter, all parties must respect the rule of law and abide by the principles of fairness and justice.we also call on the Executive Governor to direct the security agencies to investigate those involved in this illegality.”

In a similar development, some chiefs and kingmakers who distance themselves from the coronation, owing to the existing court order, described the event as null and void.

According to them, it is shameful and disgraceful that a King that supposed to be a custodian of the people is being coronated secretly in the night to avoid being noticed.
