Kano: Doguwa Tasks New Education Secretaries to Be dedicated and Disciplined
Kano State Commissioner of Education Alhaji Umar Haruna Doguwa has charged the Local Education Secretaries in the State to be dedicated and disciplined while discharging their official assignment.
Umar Doguwa made the charge today Tuesday while addressing the New Education Secretaries from the 44 local government areas during a meeting held at the SBMC Conference Hall, State Universal Basic Education Board.
The Commissioner hinted that the Education Secretaries as grass root managers of education sector have a crucial role to play in restructuring the state basic education, pointing out that it is due to the importance of the Education Secretaries post, their appointment are based on certain criteria.
Doguwa therefore employed the them to work hard and bring new changes that complement the effort of the present administration in reshaping both primary and post primary education in the state.
Kano State Governor Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf has keen interest about education and that is why his administration has come out with so many programmes aimed at strengthening our basic and post basic education system.
“There is need for you therefore to rally round the effort of His Excellency Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf and do the needful towards addressing problems bedeviling the sector said the Commissioner.
He announced that Kano State Government had completed arrangement to implement new education programmes worth 10 billion Naira in the state which include provision of soft loan to 1000 teachers, distribution of over 700,000 Schools Uniforms to primary pupils, distribution of 1,500 computers and distribution of 1.2 million Books to schools among others.
Umar Doguwa further disclosed that the ministry is coming out with proposal for Education Secretaries monitoring exercise in which all the local education authorities would be provided with adequate logistics for prompt schools monitoring.
Regarding posting of staff to schools, the Commissioner reminded the Secretaries to be sincere and just by making sure that they post staff on merit in respective of his/her position.
Earlier, the Executive Chairman State Universal Education Board Malam Kabiru Yusuf commended the Executive Governor of Kano State Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf for giving all the necessary support to the Board which he said had brought new changes to the state primary education.
Malam Kabiru Yusuf explained that the meeting which comprised the Education Secretaries and Zonal Directors from the 44 local government areas was organized to discuss issues affecting basic education in the state.
He however outlined some steps taken by the Board to ensure that quality education is provided at the grass root which include screening for the head of teacher post, screening of schools support officers (SSO) and screening of Quality Assurance Personnel.
What is now needed is for you the Education Secretaries to work with all stakeholders at your areas, come out with new programmes that can enhance basic education, and thank God our able Governor is very determined in providing us with all the support we need he maintained.
