Kogi Speaker Commends Ododo for Effective Budgetary Provisions and Compliance
The Speaker of Kogi State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Aliyu Umar Yusuf, praises Governor Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo for demonstrating outstanding budgetary compliance and optimal resource allocation to vital sectors in the 2025 appropriation bill.
In a statement made available to the press by the Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker, Yabagi Mohammed quoted the Speaker as stating this on Monday in Lokoja during an address preceding the Governor’s assent to the budget.
According to the statement, Rt Hon Umar stated that the House conducted an objective and inclusive legislative review of the various provisions and expenditures in the 2024 budget approval and determined that Governor Ododo has fulfilled all financial approvals by the State legislature.
The statement went on to say that the Speaker remembered Governor Ododo presenting the proposed budget to the Assembly on December 3, 2024, as required by Section 121(1) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended), at which time he delivered an in-depth analysis of the proposed income and expenditure for the 2025 Budget Estimate, referred to as the Budget of Inclusive Development.
In the Speaker’s words, “As a result of the above, the House exercised its constitutional duties under Section 4 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended), and immediately provided the required legislative scrutiny of the various heads and sub-heads of the Year 2024 Budget Approvals and the 2025 Budget Estimates.”
” After an objective and inclusive legislative consideration of the various budgetary provisions and expenditures in the 2024 Budget Approval, and the proposed fund allocation as contained in the 2025 Estimates, the House finds it exceedingly expedient to commend your Excellency for your unrivaled budgetary compliance and allocation of funds to the most critical sectors of the state in 2025.”
“As I wish on behalf of the House, to commend your Excellency for your diligence on the State Finances in accordance with Budgetary provisions, it is my pledge that the House will in its usual spirit of Unity, provide the needed Legislative support in ensuring the achievement of the desired Inclusive Development of Kogi State while also appealing to your Excellency to spread your proposed inclusivity of Development in Kogi State to the various State Constituencies through the State Constituency Projects for the State Legislators.
“In the light of the foregoing, I am pleased and highly humble by this singular opportunity to present to your Excellency after dutiful Legislative Considerations and passage, the 2025 Appropriation Bill for your Assent.”
The Governor commended members of the State House of Assembly in his remarks for their diligence and commitment to work, resulting in the timely passage of the bill into law.
He appealed to the Assembly members to continue providing their support to the Speaker, who has been striving tirelessly for the advancement of members and the State as a whole.
