Kogi State Chairman Scanvengers Association, Mallam Hashimu Usman (Maigemu) hails Gov Ododo’s appeal court victory

The Chairman of Scavengers Association of Kogi State, Mr Hashimu Usman (Maigemu) has felicitated with Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo on his victory at the appeal court.

Mr Usman who spoke through TG the Vice Chairman of the Association, Mr Ibrahim Ali in Lokoja, Kogi State described the victory as well deserved and a true reflection of sincerity in the judicial arms of government.

He urged the Governor to remain committed to his developmental agenda particularly in the aspect of security that has made Kogi State a reference point in Nigeria security architecture.

The Chairman said the Association has existed for over twenty five years in Kogi State with over ten thousand members assisting in sanitation of the environment, creating employment opportunities and businesses in the aspect of recycling.

His words ” we created our association to add value to our jobs. We Scavengers are the cleaners of the society. We pick nylons, cartons, papers, and everything that can be recycled. We are duly registered by the Cooperate Affairs Commission CAC and we are well organised. No doubt in every organisation, there are bad elements but with plans ahead to provide identity cards and uniforms for members, so many wrongs perception about our jobs will be addressed. We supported Ododo during the election and we love the existing peace in the state.”

Similarly, the Secretary General of the Association, Mr Muktar Yahaya Abubakar said the Association is well organised in order to protect the interests of the people who are in the business of Scavenging.

He explained that there is leadership structure for the business including the National President to Zonal, State Chairman and Local Government Chairman.

Mr Muktar disclosed that all stakeholders in the sector always gathered for seminar on monthly basis.

The Secretary appealed to State Government to give scavengers land for central camp for buying and selling as well as loan facilities to get youths attracted to the job.

He also solicited vehicles to patrol and enforce their laws noting that scavengers are not allowed to work early in the morning and Sundays.
