Liberia Warlord and Senator passes on at 72
Prince Johnson, a prominent Liberian warlord and senator, died Thursday at the age of 72.
Johnson was a key figure in Liberia’s 1989-2003 civil wars and was infamous for his role in the torture and killing of President Samuel Doe in 1990.
He went on to become the longest-serving senator and leader of the Movement for Democracy and Reconstruction party.

Following his violent past, Johnson became an evangelical preacher and outspoken critic of war crimes tribunals.
His involvement in the civil conflicts, which resulted in approximately 250,000 deaths, left a lasting impact on Liberian history.
Johnson passed away at the Hope for Women health center.
