Messiah Praises Tinubu, Manager, Onohwakpo, Pondi for Passing Maritime University Okerenkoko into Law

Dr. Olaye Messiah Doupade, a renowned humanitarian activist in the Niger Delta has extended his heartfelt appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his visionary leadership in signing the Maritime University, Okerenkoko, Warri South West LGA, into law.
This landmark decision, he emphasized, is a transformative step that solidifies Nigeria’s commitment to maritime education, economic prosperity, and youth empowerment.
Dr. Olaye Messiah acknowledged the invaluable contributions of Senator James Manager, Senator Joel Onohwakpo, and RT Hon Julius Pondi towards the successful transition of the bill into an act of parliament at the National Assembly.
Olaye also commended the monumental achievement as a triumph not solely for the people of Okerenkoko, but a national landmark that will augment Nigeria’s standing in the global maritime industry. According to him, the formalization of the university will bolster the nation’s capacity to train elite maritime professionals, expand economic opportunities, and reinforce Nigeria’s role in international maritime affairs.
Dr. Olaye recognized the pivotal contributions of key stakeholders, expressing heartfelt gratitude to High Chief Dr. Government Oweizide Ekpomupolo, commonly known as Tompolo, for his unwavering dedication and sacrifice in the establishment of the university. He also commended the diligent efforts of Mr Matthew Tonlagha, Chief Engr. Keston Pondi, and others who worked tirelessly to achieve this milestone. Dr. Olaye highlighted that the aforementioned individuals are distinguished personalities who invested considerable time, resources, and energy to push for this historic moment, with their efforts being forever etched in the annals of Niger Delta’s progress.
He added: “The signing of the bill into law is a memorable moment for the Okerenkoko people and we will continue to cherish this historic moment in the annals of the Gbaramatu Kingdom.
Dr. Olaye Messiah took the opportunity to congratulate Aketekpe, the Royal Father of Gbaramatu Kingdom, on his exemplary leadership, which has significantly advanced the kingdom’s development. Dr. Olaye expressed his wishes for Aketekpe’s prolonged reign, anticipating sustained growth and prosperity for the kingdom.
He clarified in his speech that the Maritime University, Okerenkoko, is a national institution and asset established to benefit all Nigerians, with particular emphasis on the people of the Niger Delta.
Dr. Olaye stressed the importance of unity and cooperation among stakeholders, community leaders, and well-meaning Nigerians to support the university’s growth and fulfill its mandate. He urged the Federal Government and relevant agencies to provide necessary infrastructural and academic support to establish the institution as a center of excellence for maritime studies.
“The Maritime University, Okerenkoko, serves as a symbol of optimism for our region, embodying advancement, empowerment, and the unified resilience of our people. We must now concentrate on establishing a world-class institution that will endure the test of time,” Olaye concluded.”
