The Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly has concluded arrangements for a one-day public hearing on the Bill for a Law to Repeal and Enact the Local Government System in Nasarawa State, 2024, addressing establishment, structure, composition, finance, functions, and other associated matters.
Chairman of the House Committee on Local Government, Hon. Musa Abubakar Ibrahim, in a press statement indicating that the amendment aligns with the Supreme Court’s recent judgment granting financial autonomy to Local Government Areas in Nigeria.
Accordingly, the statement requests that the State Ministry for Local Government, Ministry of Justice, NBA, State Pension Bureau, Local Government Service Commission, Chairman State Council of Chiefs, Emir of Lafia, Retired Justice Sidi Bage Muhammad, and other concerned parties submit 15 copies of memoranda detailing their observations and suggested amendments to the proposed bill.
All invited parties are required to present themselves for submission and oral defence on Monday, 21st October 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at the Assembly Complex, Shendam Road, Lafia.
