Nasarawa Governor Opens 41st Scientific Conference, Pledges N10m for Research

Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State has underscored the role of the Nigerian Society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (NSBMB) in promoting research and innovation, particularly in the area of science studies.
The Governor, represented by the Commissioner for Science and Technology, Comrade Gabriel Agbashi, made this declaration at the 41st Scientific Conference and General Assembly of NSBMB held at the Assembly Hall of Nasarawa State University Keffi on Monday, July 7, 2025.
Governor Sule commended the management of Nasarawa State University Keffi under the leadership of Prof. Sa’adatu Hassan Liman for their impactful commitment to research and innovation. He pledged N10 million for the society to encourage research and innovation, stating that the state government will continue to support higher institutions to drive development.
The four-day conference, themed “Innovation in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology: Tools for Sustainable Development and Poverty Alleviation,” drew participants from various universities across Nigeria, including Vice Chancellors, professors, and students.
The scientific conference featured 300 research paper presentations, with 200 oral presentations and 90 poster presentations.
The National President of NSBMB, Prof. Mathew Wegwu, emphasized the importance of the conference theme in addressing local and global challenges, including diseases, climate change, and economic inequality.
He highlighted breakthroughs in innovation, such as therapeutics, vaccine development, and gene editing.
The Vice Chancellor of Nasarawa State University Keffi, Prof. Sa’adatu Hassan Liman, noted that current innovations in biochemistry are driving transformative advancements in biochemical research, industrial biotechnology, and personalized medicine. She called on participants to think critically about the role of biochemistry and molecular biology in shaping a better future.
The event is expected to end on Thursday, July 10, 2025, after exhausting all papers presented by different scholars.
