Nasarawa LG polls: NASIEC, security agencies team up for smooth November 2 council elections

In preparation for the November 2 local government elections, Nasarawa State Independent Electoral Commission (NASIEC) Chairman, Barrister Ayuba Usman Wandai, took part in the Inter Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security meeting to facilitate a peaceful electoral process.

Barrister Wandai was in attendance at the Nasarawa State Police Command headquarters for a meeting on Thursday.

Wandai emphasized in his address that the meeting’s objective was to establish synergy between his commission and state-based security agencies, ensuring effective security measures and harmonious interactions.

“We recognize in NASIEC that fulfilling our statutory obligations has significant implications for the state’s peace and security, thereby necessitating close collaboration with security agencies to guarantee a seamless exercise.”

The NASIEC Chairman commended the significant efforts of security agencies in guaranteeing a peaceful and successful outcome for the scheduled council elections.

“We view our partnership with security agencies as key to achieving a successful election. We anticipate a peaceful and orderly process, based on our mutual understandings.”

Wandai thanked the participants for attending the meeting on such short notice.

In his introductory remarks, Co-Chairman of the Inter Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security and Nasarawa State Commissioner of Police, Shehu Umar Nadada, stated that the meeting was convened to discuss election security arrangements for the upcoming local government council elections, scheduled for November 2.

The CP pointed out that the meeting was necessary for the participants to discuss towards ensuring that a high degree of professionalism is exhibited during the election.

He noted that the meeting will include a discussion on preparedness levels, following a briefing by the NASIEC chairman to the committee.
