Pastor Ndukwe Ogbu gets 53-year prison sentence for assaulting, defiling his 14-year-old daughter
A 45-year-old pastor named Ndukwe Ogbu has been sentenced to 53 years in prison by a Lagos State Sexual Offences Court for sexually assaulting and defiling his 14-year-old daughter.
The charges included sexual assault by penetration, and defilement.
The court found the prosecution proved the case beyond reasonable doubt, relying on testimonies from the victim, a social worker who reported the case, and a medical doctor who examined the girl.
The victim testified that the abuse started when she was 14, describing how her father would enter her room naked, force himself on her, and threaten her not to tell anyone.
Despite pleading for leniency citing other children to care for, the pastor showed no remorse.
The sentence includes 3 years for the first count and 25 years each for the second and third counts, running concurrently, starting from December 2019 when he was first remanded.
The judge emphasized that the prosecution’s evidence was clear and convincing, leaving no doubt about the pastor’s guilt.
During sentencing, Justice Abike-Fadipe noted that the pastor showed no remorse and did not apologize for his actions, despite pleading for mercy on the grounds that he had other children to care for.
This verdict highlights the court’s firm stance on child sexual abuse and the importance of justice for victims, regardless of the perpetrator’s position or family circumstances.
